Frequently Asked Questions
What songs will Jennifer Nettles play in concert?
Jennifer Nettles is the front woman of country/pop outfit, Sugarland. She has gained a sizable fan base with her leading band, and she hopes to carry that over on her first solo tour. She is touring in support of her debut album, That Girl, released in January 2014.
Unsurprisingly, she works with the album quite a bit and opens with the leading single. This is the title track, and it is her most recognizable song from the record. “This Angel” beautifully appears in the middle of the set, and the album’s opening track, “Falling,” fits right in the early portion of the set.
Nettles pads the rest of her set with a handful of covers. The indie/pop tune “Demons” shows up courtesy of Imagine Dragons. Nettles offers her grandiose songstress country sound to the track which is wonderful. She also closes her sets with Bob Seger’s rock standard, “Like a Rock.” It is oddly common for artists with little working material to close with a big cover song.
Hailing from Sugarland, she belts out quite a few tracks from their catalog. The riveting love song, “Baby Girl” appears early in the set. Sugarland’s “Stay” is impressively lifted to life in the hands of Nettles and her backing band. Considering she fronts the group, her solo interpretation of the material is astonishingly perfect. This will be the closest fans get to seeing Sugarland for awhile considering their indefinite hiatus announcement a few years ago.
The below set stays rather consistent, with only mild changes (such as moving “All I Wanna Know” towards the end).
That Girl
Moneyball
Baby Girl
Me Without You
Falling
Yacht Rock
Weekend In New England
This One’s For You
Jealousy
This Angel
All I Want To Do
Good Time To Cry
Demons
Something More
His Hands
Stay
Know You Wanna Know
Thank You
Like A Rock
How long is a Jennifer Nettles concert?
Nettles is a powerful front woman, but a bit stage shy. She gets in and gets out rather quick, and reviews have the show at about 80 to 90 minutes. Considering she only has a single solo album, it is not exactly a surprise. But fans hope she beefs up her show with a little more material on the next tour. She does not extend her material in random ways, and the setlist remains quite consistent from night to night.
What artist is opening for Jennifer Nettles?
Brandy Clark has achieved massive cult buzz after her narrative-driven 12 Stories record was released. She lacks the vocal aerobics of Nettles, but her style is riveting and her stage presence is enthralling.
Will there be an appearance by Kristian Bush?
The short answer is no. The pair has quietly gone on a hiatus following the release of 2010’s the Incredible Machine. Nettles has an intimate backing band for the shows which help flesh out her solo material in the live setting. Despite a lack of Kristian Bush, the Sugarland tracks sound fantastic through Nettles’ own backing band. They were not in the studio with Nettles and producer Rick Rubin, but they hold their own and bring an extra touching element to the songs.
What should I expect at the show style-wise?
Those unfamiliar with Nettles solo material may be caught off guard. Sugarland is an upbeat country/pop group, yet Nettles material is a bit more reflective and somber affair. A lot of the songs are acoustic, and that is reflected in the smaller club size run she is doing. This is also far from her borderline punk recordings with the polarizing Kristian Bush. Fans should expect a more laid-back and introspective approach. Even Sugarland material is slightly stripped and reinforced with a softer style in general.

Concert Reviews
“No doubt, Nettles is a star. She’s got the casual-country-but-coolly-stylish look, the booming voice with a piercing twang and the “I see you, girlfriend!” type of personality that immediately connects her with fans.” – Melissa Ruggieri of Access Atlanta
“So now we get Jennifer Nettles, the brassy-voiced lead singer ofSugarland, her trio-turned-duo with bandmate Kristian Bush. And the decision? Well, it’s kind of like a 10-round fight, and Nettles’ Saturday night gig at the Hard Rock Live Rocksino is only the first round. But you can see a championship down the road.” – Chuck Yarborough of Cleveland Press
“She’s more comfortable — and more convincing — in a handful of rowdier uptempo cuts: “Know You Wanna Know,” about the allure of celebrity gossip; “Moneyball,” with some appealingly earnest thoughts regarding technology’s forward march; and “That Girl,” a clever riff on Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” in which Nettles declines to play the home-wrecker.” – Mikael Wood of LA Times
